Carrie McDermott

Carrie practices in the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department and has gained a very extensive range of experience as a litigation solicitor having formerly been a senior partner in large leading Irish law firm. She advises on all aspects of litigation matters, from breach of contract, property claims, material damage claims, defective product claims and personal injury claims. She acts for a number of Irish and London market based insurers and provides specialist Defence litigation advices to clients. She is dedicated to providing clients with commercial strategic advices. Carrie is dedicated to providing clients with commercial legal solutions to their problems. She is strategic and commercially focused. She believes in being cost sensitive and giving the client value for money.

Carrie has also gained experience in professional indemnity claims against solicitors, engineers, accountants, brokers and medical professionals. She provides strategic and commercial advice to her clients in professional indemnity matters and is committed to ensuring a quality service to indemnifiers and insurers in such matters. Carrie has worked on large judicial review proceedings and injunctive proceedings. She represents clients at all Court Levels, but in particular the High Court and Commercial Court. She has a particular expertise in advising insurance clients in relation to indemnity issues that arise in respect of insurance contracts.

Carrie has acted in many high value claims and tortious disputes. Carrie has advised clients in areas of tort law, contract law, constitutional law, administrative law, judicial review law and equitable law. Carrie is also a regular guest of the Insurance Institute as an expert speaker on all areas of personal injury defence litigation. She also regularly lectures at the Law Society of Ireland in Dublin and Cork. She has co-hosted a number of events in both Ireland and the UK dealing with the personal injury market in Ireland and has a particular interest in analysing fraudulent claims and the law applicable to fraudulent claims in Ireland, she is committed to lobbying for change to ensure that such fraudulent claims are dealt with appropriately by the Irish legal system.

Carrie also acts for large lending institutions in large debt collection recovery and has acted for receivers in insolvency matters.

Carrie is an excellent advocate and is often asked to speak at various lectures on key points that impact the defence insurance market and indeed has been a keynote speaker at various large events. She regularly publishes articles in various periodicals and is involved in education and lecturing students in the area of negligence.
